The Highways Agency run the speed restrictors, and I feel they are ignored because they are not updated after an incident has passed or rush hour is over.
What improvement could best serve the Midlands motorists?
Installing signs warning drivers that there is a problem on the motorway and advising them to seek alternative routes. That alone would solve a lot of the congestion.
2 weeks ago I joined the M42 south, heading for Coventry. There was nothing to inform me that there was a lorry fire on the M6 south and that congestion had spilled out of the West Midlands main commuter routes.
I do not use the radio in the car, its a distraction and I dislike having to listen just to get 3 secs of information. I was unable to leave the motorway until the junction at the NEC and then the A45 Coventry Road was just as heavily congested as I approached Coventry. First time I had ever been late for work.
