Sixty five children offered a reception place at a school outside of Sutton Coldfield for 2014

A Freedom of Information request to Birmingham City Council has once again highlighted competition for reception places in Sutton Coldfield is on the rise.
For the new term starting September 2014, 1055 parents living in the town were chasing reception places for their children, a figure up from the 944 in 2013. 887 were successful and secured a place at their first choice, with 89 children being offered their second and 25 their third.
The number who received a place which wasn’t one of their preferences has doubled from 25 in 2013 to 54 in 2014, while a staggering 65 were offered a school outside of Sutton Coldfield, up from 49 in 2013.
Unsurprisingly, Boldmere Infant & Nursery School was the most sought after in Sutton Coldfield. The school received 318 applications by parents as a first choice and 85 children successfully secured a place, while 50 were not so lucky.
Sutton Coldfield Rural can reveal that other Sutton Coldfield schools with more parents chasing reception places than were available, included Walmley Infant School (NC), who registered 248 applications, were able to offer 76 their first choice but recorded a further 27 unsuccessful candidates. Four Oaks Primary School received 188 applications, accepted 60 first choice, but also registered 27 unsuccessful.

2724 preferences were expressed (Compared to 2373 in 2013)
887 were offered their first preferred school (Compared to 824 in 2013)
89 were offered their second preferred school (Compared to 76 in 2013)
25 were offered their third preferred school (Compared to 19 in 2013)
1001 were offered one of their preferred schools (Compared to 919 in 2013)
54 were offered a school that was not one of their preferences (Compared to 25 in 2013)
65 were offered a school outside Sutton Coldfield (Compared to 49 in 2013)
Information based on non-Sutton Coldfield residents found that:
474 parent/carers who live outside of Sutton Coldfield applied for Sutton Coldfield schools for their child (Compared to 405 in 2013)
Of the 474 non-Sutton Coldfield pupil applications, 151 children (who live outside Sutton Coldfield) were offered a Sutton Coldfield school (Compared to 199 in 2013)
